Surfacing useful data to a wide range of users

Reimagining how conservation data is designed, delivered, and used at scale

Challenge

BirdLife needed to relaunch DataZone, its primary open-access hub for global conservation data, to better serve researchers, conservationists and the public. The existing platform was hampered by outdated UX, siloed datasets and limited search or discovery, restraining its reach and usability for BirdLife's mission.

Solution

We partnered with BirdLife International to co-design and develop the new BirdLife DataZone: an open-access platform that makes decades of species and site-level data intuitive, interactive and actionable. A new information architecture surfaces datasets, maps and resources clearly, with search and filtering built for scientific and public audiences alike.

Outcomes

Early reports show a strong uplift in platform traffic, engagement and dataset downloads, helping researchers and advocates worldwide discover and use BirdLife's data faster than before.

“BirdLife International is proud to have partnered with Hex and Trifork to develop the new DataZone, presenting our information to decision-makers in a dynamic, engaging, visually attractive platform”
